govt. banks and private banks ... the difference

a week ago i decided to open account in the state bank of india ( joint acc. wid mom )... so i go to the bank located in vijay khand gmtngr... after asking 5-6 officials i finally arrived at the desk where they give out the forms.. asked fr it , the man at the desk looks me wid those tiny black eyes magnified by the +7 spectacles he was wearing and continues working ..
i wait fr another 5-7 mins standing ( all the sofas were occupied ) .. after that he flicks open his drawer , hands me a blue form, says " id proof chahiye hoga , hai ?? " .. i had my driving license.. fine .. i go home fill up the form and then return only to find the bank was closed fr the day ...it was 3 pm !!! can u imagine ??
day 2 : i get up early and reach the bank at 10:30 ... the officer at the desk was not present .. waited for 10 mins. .. he arrives .. give him the form .. he says " aapka pan no nahin hai kya ?" "NO" ( comon dude , do i look like a 30 yr old professional working in some multi national firm !!! bad age estimate ).. "id proof laayiye".. hand him the photocopy of my license.. " aapki photo to dikh hi nahin rahi hai , aapki mummy ka kya id proof hai" .. hand him the respective document..." ghar ka proof nahin hai , woh lekar aayiye ".. bak home, had lunch, got the telophone bill photocopied and return to the bank... the officer had taken leave for the day and the counter was closed...end of day 2..
day 3:reach the bank at 11:30 am ... long queue .. wait for 30 mins ( the bank is air conditioned , thank god !!!)... my turn arrives... after flicking through 3-4 pages of the form he declares " aapko kisi ne introduce nahin kiya hai , bina uske acount nahin khul paayega " ... so for the next 3-4 hours went in getting the signatures of an acoount holder in the bank.. and then its again 3 o clock !!!!
day 4: reach the bank after completing all the homework and re-re-re reading the form 20-30 times.. the officer recognises me and acknowledges my presence ( as if i was of the opposite sex !!!).. everything fine .. gud !! finally it is his trurn to just enter my details in the bank database BUT " apni mother ko le ke aayiye , bina dono logon ke presence ke joint account nahin kholte hum log " .. ahhhh !!!! !@$@#!$#@!$@.. i gritted my teeth in frustration.. okay , chill, relax, take deep breaths, gud !! immediately call home and tell mom to come to the bank asap... after that finally i was an account holder at state bank of india ...

a week ago , at the same time, my dad had given me a homework- to get details regarding credit cards and how to get one issued from icici bank ...
day 1: i arrive at the bank .. ultra modern infratructure like google headquarters.. in front written in bold ,big letters " BANK TIMINGS- 8 AM - 8 PM " .. great !!! impressive
as soon as i enter i look for the required counter and find one under " credit cards and home loans " ... reach that counter , " Hello , good afternoon sir . how can i help you ?" .. tell him i wanted info. regarding credit cards for dad .. he explains me everything rite from how to apply , how to fill the form , the interest rates , the validity , special schemes and etc etc... in the end gives me his phone no. and asks for mine with the address... " Thank you sir ".. i leave.. in the evening he arrives at my abode
and gets the form filled right there without any problematic formalities.. " thank you sir for trusting icici bank , you will receive you credit card within a week by post "

this is the difference between private banks and govt. banks .. not only this, be it the passport office , RTO office any damned govt. agency , they are slow and troublesome... everyone enjoys 10-3 job hours, comfortable salary and then turn sloths .... is there any remedy ?? wherein lies the problem ?? is it the system or is it us ??

well said ! I agree on most of the points. Problem lies within us-the comman man. We just can't motivate ourselves to work if we don't have a sword hanging above our head. The same applies here and to most of the other similar situations around.

nice post dj... as u said, the situation is present in all govt offices... the problem is that most of the people who end up getting those jobs dont have any sort of ambition, so they are pretty happy with where they are and what they are doing, hence no drive to please

(and i have a pan card as well :P )
